Tranquil Pigeon Bay in monochrome
Otago Harbour was blanketed in fog this morning, we’re currently having a taste of summer-to-come with a heatwave so once the fog burns off we’ll be in for blue skies and balmy temperatures once more. At Deborah Bay the tuis and bellbirds were echoing eerily through the fog, while the water was calm and still. I love the reflections of the moored boats at Deborah Bay when the water is still like this, the fog gives it something extra though by eliminating the horizon so that the boats and their refelctions appear weightless:
While along the saltmarsh boardwalk at Aramoana the sun was just starting to break through the fog (see the spotlight effect in the grasses in the foreground) while the Otago Peninsula was still hidden from view:

The West Coast of New Zealand is known for it’s amazing sunsets. The clouds seem to glow, while the seas continue their thunderous refrain.

Winter sun lights up the grass & flaxes on the cliff edge at Cape Foulwind on the West Coast. The thundering of the wild seas on the West Coast was the soundtrack for the weekend!

My winter blues were well and truly chased away by this brilliant sunset at Charleston, on the West Coast. This is a beautiful beach and was an amazing spot to spend a weekend away.
I was immediately captivated by the remains of this old jetty, which must have belonged to one of the cute little beach houses along the shore. The sand was fascinating as well, the hues of pink and grey give the illusion of water rushing in around the broken poles.

The yachts looked like toys arranged amidst a model landscape, the harbour an eye-catching shade of teal and the sky softened by fluffy candy-floss clouds… I couldn’t resist!

On a leisurely Sunday drive around a couple of the Bays on the Peninsula I was captivated by the mirror-smooth water at high tide in Charteris Bay.

The winter sun sparkling off the ocean, the slight fog on the ocean making the silhouette of the jetty that much more solid… all in all a particularly magical day.
