Wedding Photography: Ruth & Elmer

Ruth & Elmer’s intimate family wedding was a delight to photograph. Their simple ceremony was held at the gorgeous chapel at St Mary’s on Manchester, and followed by canapés in the amazing garden at The Curator’s House and sparklers on the lawn after dark!

Wedding Photography: Charlotte & Kirsty at Melton Estate

Charlotte & Kirsty’s day was full joy, warmth and SO much love… you can just see the happiness radiating from them.

Despite the drizzle (much needed as it was the weekend after the Port Hills fires!) my two gorgeous brides were all smiles, all day. Melton Estate’s permanent marquee is a beautiful spot for a wet-weather wedding, and the drizzle cleared enough for the bridal party to venture out into the vines where we could take advantage of the soft lighting and intense greens that are the upside of a rainy day: perfect for the girls’ colour scheme of soft creams and deep green!

Wedding Photography: Roberta & Brett

Roberta & Brett had their two gorgeous sons as groomsboys, so to get them at their best we had the bridal party photographs at Trents Estate Vineyard before heading to All Saints Church in nearby Prebbleton for the ceremony.

Bert & Brett were such a wonderful couple to photograph: they were easy to capture having a laugh, or a cuddle, and so natural in front of the camera that their images have a very “real” feel to them. What you see is what you get, and what you get is two happy people, dedicated parents, and best friends.

After the ceremony, it was back to Trents for the reception, where the kids had a wonderful surprise waiting for them: Melanie Poppins! She’d brought her bag of magic tricks, and plenty of balloons & bubbles to entertain the kids. Her “assistant”, Harry Potter the rabbit, kept even the very wee kids captivated.

Wedding Photography: Kerry & Dave at McLeans Island

Kerry & Dave had an intimate ceremony in a marquee in Dave’s parent’s backyard. The day was overcast (perfect from the photographer’s point of view) but the sky cleared just as the sun was about to go down.

There was a simple elegance (that I’m sure still took a lot of planning!) to everything, and too many gorgeous little details to mention so I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

Wedding Photography: Emily & Andrew at Hampton Lea

Emily & Andrew had a garden-party style wedding (complete with giant jenga & croquet on the lawn) at the simply stunning Hampton Lea Gardens near Rolleston.

The midday ceremony was followed by champagne & canapé’s, and while the guests mingled I took Emily & Andrew off for their formal photographs at a few different spots around the gardens, in the old woolshed (which doubles as the wet-weather ceremony space) and against the old 2 story barn. After the late-lunch reception Andrew & Emily took their first dance on the lawn. Despite the forecast for showers we were very lucky with the weather – overcast is great for photography! – and the showers stayed away until early evening.

Emily & Andrew liked my art-documentary approach to wedding photography and asked for mostly informal photographs of them with their guests throughout the day, with a few formal photographs of just the two of them. I had so much fun capturing the story of their wedding day: from a nervous & excited bride arriving at the venue, through the sweet & simple ceremony, a relaxed celebration & reception to the first dance on the lawn and culminating with Emily’s enthusiastic throw of her bouquet (she got some serious height!).

Wedding Photography: Andrei & June at Mt Sunday

Andrei and June held their wedding ceremony at the absolutely stunning Mount Sunday in the Hakatere Conservation Park. Even if you haven’t been there (by the way you definitely should!) you might recognise it as Edoras from the Lord of the Rings films.

As climbers and mountaineers Andrei and June were keen to have their wedding somewhere that reflected their passion for the outdoors and I don’t think they could have come up with anywhere more spectacular if they’d tried. The blue skies and sheer mountains on all sides were the perfect setting. Their friends did an amazing job helping make their day extra special by lugging seating up to the summit of Mount Sunday, putting balloons on posts on the trail so that guests could find their way, and even pedalling a 3-wheeled mountainbike-cart with drinks & refreshments halfway up – it was a typically boiling hot, sunny, mid-Canterbury late-summer day so I for one was very grateful for the refreshments. June, a florist, had done all the flower arrangements for the reception, a cute handbag-inspired piece for her bridesmaid, the flowergirl’s headband, her own bridal bouquet and the boys’ buttonholes. She had also made a gorgeous moss cushion for the rings to be displayed on until it was time to exchange them.

Their reception was held at Mount Potts lodge, a short drive from Mount Sunday. with a fantastic view and a cute country lodge-style restaurant and bar it was perfect for an intimate wedding reception and had plenty of room for dancing the night away.

Wedding Photography: Sarah & Andy at Langdale Vineyard

Sarah & Andy were married on Valentine’s Day, at Langdale Vineyard Restaurant in West Melton.

My first job of the day was to meet The Boys, who had arranged access to Ferrymead Heritage Park for some really fun creative shots – we had an amazing variety of backgrounds, historic buildings & structures to work with and the boys were heaps of fun. My classic VW Beetle even made an appearance, since Andy is a VW enthusiast.

Next up I went and met the girls to photograph final details of hair & make-up (Sarah’s mum did her make-up, what a lucky girl she is!), and the girls, Sarah, and Sarah & Andy’s daughter getting dressed.

After the ceremony I took some fun shots with the bridal party around the property, some candid shots of the guests mingling, the cake cutting and detail shots of the table settings and then it was off home for my own Valentines Day dinner, awww….
