Art Photography: Foggy morning along Otago Harbour

Otago Harbour was blanketed in fog this morning, we’re currently having a taste of summer-to-come with a heatwave so once the fog burns off we’ll be in for blue skies and balmy temperatures once more. At Deborah Bay the tuis and bellbirds were echoing eerily through the fog, while the water was calm and still. I love the reflections of the moored boats at Deborah Bay when the water is still like this, the fog gives it something extra though by eliminating the horizon so that the boats and their refelctions appear weightless:

While along the saltmarsh boardwalk at Aramoana the sun was just starting to break through the fog (see the spotlight effect in the grasses in the foreground) while the Otago Peninsula was still hidden from view:

Wedding Photography: Ashleigh & Grant at Darjon Vineyard

Ashleigh & her girls had their hair & make-up done at Merivale Manor, and we made the most of the beautiful manor with some glamourous shots on the balconies and beautiful rooms.

A limo-ride through the countryside later and we arrived at Darjon Vineyard for their ceremony. With the weather a smidge less than perfect the ceremony was held inside, but luckily the drizzle cleared juuuust enough to allow for some outdoor photographs later on. The vineyard looked super lush and vibrant with a top up from the rainy day, and the bridal party were more than happy to get in amongst the sodden vines and grass for some fun & games with a nerf-gun!

Ashleigh looked amazing in her lace covered vintage-glam gown, and Grant complimented her perfectly in a dapper maroon (or is that colour-of-the-moment Marsala?!) suit. Their ceremony was full of laughter and you can just tell from looking at them that they have amazing chemistry, and are best friends as well as partners. I loved working with these two, they just look super happy together!

Here’s my highlights from their January wedding…

Wedding Photography: Scott & Belinda at Rosebank Estate

Here’s some of my favourite moments from Scott & Belinda’s beautiful wedding at Rosebank Estate in January.

They were an awesome, hilarious, chilled, and just all-around lovely couple to work with and their day was full of laughter and lovely warm-fuzzy moments with their 2 gorgeous daughters, and family & friends who had travelled from near, and very far.

After photos with the girls & Scott’s brother in Rosebank’s gardens we went to The Groynes for some quieter moments in amongst the trees, before heading back to Rosebank for dinner & dancing.

Portrait Photography: Logan, 4.5 Months

Despite an incoming Southerly, Zara, David & their gorgeous wee boy Logan were troopers and met me for a portrait shoot overlooking Lake Ellesmere, near the Little River Rail Trail at Kaituna. Zara & David are clearly very much in love with their little boy, and the bond between the three of them was wonderful to photograph.

There were way too many adorable moments to choose between, but I managed to select a few favourites as highlights from the shoot…

Remains of an old jetty at Charleston

My winter blues were well and truly chased away by this brilliant sunset at Charleston, on the West Coast. This is a beautiful beach and was an amazing spot to spend a weekend away.

I was immediately captivated by the remains of this old jetty, which must have belonged to one of the cute little beach houses along the shore. The sand was fascinating as well, the hues of pink and grey give the illusion of water rushing in around the broken poles.

Wedding Photography: Katie & David at Cossars Wineshed

Katie & the bridesmaids started off the day at The Gatehouse at Greystones, the pre-wedding bridal party shots were taken there as well, including a “first look” moment, the first time David saw his beautiful bride all dressed up.

David & the groomsmen arrived at the ceremony in a fabulous old Bedford truck that he and his family had restored especially for the wedding. Katie & the bridesmaids arrived at the ceremony in a fabulous (and loud!) blue Chevrolet.

The ceremony & reception were held at Cossars Wineshed in Tai Tapu. Katie had done an amazing job of creating a gorgeous aisle with posts and potted succulents, and white & purple lanterns hanging from the trees. She tells me that most of her ideas came from pinterest and it sounds like she had heaps of fun crafting everything herself including making a cake stand out of a heart shaped section of a tree!

Portrait Photography: Rory, age 2

My first official portrait model, Rory, is now 2! He’s now a VERY active little boy, so we had a lot of action-shots at this session.

In keeping with my art-documentary approach I don’t take props to a shoot. I think kids in particular respond best to their own toys and in a familiar environment, and it results in more real photos of this moment in his life. The shoot took place at their home, and mostly centred around Rory playing on his favourite toy: a balance bike. After a run-around outside (Rory’s dad was also a great sport and got in on the action in a few shots) we moved inside where we had a few more quiet moments.

When I was working on these images I had a look back at his newborn and 5-month shoots and it’s crazy how much he’s grown – the first few years go by so fast that it’s great to have a record of them.
