Here’s my highlights from Michaela & Kurt’s stunning autumn wedding!
The first look & bridal party photographs were shot at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens where the warm rich autumn foliage was a gorgeous backdrop. I just love the soft, warm light at this time of the year, and the richness and saturation of colour that you can achieve in the landscape while still maintaining lovely soft skin tones.
The ceremony & first dance photographs were shot at Langdales Vineyard Restaurant where the ceremony was officiated by the fabulous Debbie Hawker. The sun was just dropping down behind the row of trees directly behind Michaela & Kurt during the ceremony, so while there was a lovely soft golden light I knew I’d be risking glare and washout if the sun was coming straight down the lens for the first kiss – I really wanted to get a straight-on shot of the couple’s first kiss so I moved into the arbour where I got a great shot of the first kiss with their families and other guests in the background, all perfectly lit by the soft golden glow of the sun.
Roberta & Brett had their two gorgeous sons as groomsboys, so to get them at their best we had the bridal party photographs at Trents Estate Vineyard before heading to All Saints Church in nearby Prebbleton for the ceremony.
Bert & Brett were such a wonderful couple to photograph: they were easy to capture having a laugh, or a cuddle, and so natural in front of the camera that their images have a very “real” feel to them. What you see is what you get, and what you get is two happy people, dedicated parents, and best friends.
After the ceremony, it was back to Trents for the reception, where the kids had a wonderful surprise waiting for them: Melanie Poppins! She’d brought her bag of magic tricks, and plenty of balloons & bubbles to entertain the kids. Her “assistant”, Harry Potter the rabbit, kept even the very wee kids captivated.

Julie & Andrew’s ceremony and reception were held at the Larcomb Vineyard, near Rolleston in Christchurch. It’s a lovely venue and a photographer’s dream as it has an excellent variety of places to take photographs: the vineyard, a cool red barn, and some beautiful brickwork in the reception building.
As one of many unique touches to their day, Julie & Andrew chose to have their gorgeous dog Marley as their ringbearer – a recipe for disaster, some might say! – however she performed her job perfectly during the ceremony and was a model-dog during the photos afterwards (credit where credit is due, Julie & Andrew were pretty well behaved too).
A selection of my favourite shots from the day are below. I particularly loved the bridal car (phwoar!), photographing the bridal party in the vineyard (it was early in the season, so although the vines weren’t in full leaf yet they made for great shapes and perspective) as well as all the other special little spots that the venue had to offer.
